Mark Sharp & The Bicycle Thieves – Sink or Swim
The concept for this ridiculous video was conceived at the early hours of a house party. I was talking to the band’s bassist Conor Ward who wanted to make a music video with pirates and a sea monster. We brainstormed with the remaining braincells we had at 3am on Sunday morning.
We moved away from pirates when we found the perfect model sailing boat on Ebay for about a fiver. That as well as some green screen material was the only real cost for the overall video. It is incredible to think that we managed to pull off this video with little to no budget what so ever. My brother who is a joiner built the side of the boat which allowed the band to interact with a physical prop and I animated the octopus using stop motion on my computer desk.
I was ecstatic to find out this won an award from weekender magazine as the best music video of the year. Not bad for band with no label or budget.
